Summer is my favorite season, so I want to share four ways to stay relaxed and enjoy it all.
I love the sun, heat, and being outdoors. Summer also gives me the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone. This can be trying new food dishes, hiking a new trail, or vacationing someplace new.
On the other hand, staying home doing nothing to recharge, is also something I love.
Getting Past The Guilt
Being a busy mom, business owner, and wife, the thought of doing nothing comes with guilt and it shows up in many forms.
It can be guilt in eating too much of our favorite foods on vacation, not spending more time with the family or at work, or not moving our bodies enough.
So how do you get past this guilt and enjoy doing what you like during the summer?
I have four ideas to share that you might keep in mind. Trust me, I remind myself of these key tips when I feel the guilt monster lurking. In fact, right at this moment, I am enjoying a Nutella, banana, and strawberry crepe as my breakfast and savoring every bite.
Now, I could start to feel guilty by telling myself eating something like this is not a healthy breakfast; instead, I check in with myself and know this is not an emotional response to a busy morning or writing a blog post. It is just a preference I want now and will enjoy.
And now, back to you!
I know that not all these tips may relate to you at this moment, but it’s always good to have a variety of tools.
4 Tips To Fight Off Guilt
Here are my four tips to fight off guilt:
1. Give yourself a break.
This falls under self-care. Self-care is essential when it comes to emotional happiness. When you know you need a break from your day-to-day activities and decide to take time for yourself by reading a good book, going to the movies, or going out to eat, remind yourself about the importance of self-care to reduce the power of the guilt that hangs over you.
2. Express yourself.
When we take a break from our normal, daily routines – a vacation is always good for this – we often come back with a totally fresh perspective and even more new ideas in our personal and business lives. Use the new creative juices to reconnect with family and friends or try something new in your business.
3. Practice stress management.
You knew this was going to come up. Stress is the silent culprit that deeply affects our lives.
When you are doing something you enjoy and not feeling guilty about it, your stress takes a nose dive. The stress hormone cortisol is not be produced nor is it being stored as fat. So, don’t add more stress to your life with guilt.
Enjoy what you want to do. Leave the stress for another day.
4. Focus on what you’ll be DOING instead of what you’ll be MISSING.
“It’s not your responsibility to shape your life around everything you’re expected to do,” Minnesota-based coach Rebekah Buege advises. “Shape your life around things that bring you joy and happiness.”
I love this quote! Instead of feeling guilt, get excited about all the fun experiences waiting for you.
